These days, plastic is no longer the primary raw material; recycled PET has become increasingly popular in recent years for the manufacture of everyday objects and even plush toys. This trend has accelerated, in particular, due to the environmental crisis, where poor turtles, dolphins, and fish were suffocating because of our waste, discarded without any awareness of the consequences.
The RPET is part of a CSR approach thanks to several advantages:
- It will give a new life to used packaging;
- Its production emits less CO2;
- It will also reduce the use of petroleum, which is the raw material needed to make PET;
- Reduce the amount of packaging in natural landfills and oceans.
What is RPET?
RPET stands for Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate; it simply comes from the reuse of plastic. Sorting plants begin by separating the different types of plastics (polymers: PP, PS, etc.) according to their composition. By shredding the collected empty bottles, the plants transform these bottles into granules through a recycling process. From these granules, new bottles or other objects, such as RPET plush toys, are created.
How is a RPET plush toy made?
Plush toys require RPET, which is usually derived from plastic bottles. Once the PET is sorted, it is shredded and processed. The plastic chips are then melted to form filaments that factories need to manufacture plush toys.
Using recycled PET promotes a circular economy and therefore avoids the use of new materials. This action helps reduce its carbon footprint. For every ton of recycled plastic, the equivalent of 800 kg of crude oil is saved.
